(WILMINGTON, Del. – June 16, 2026) - Our community suffered a tragic shooting today, which occurred at the ChristianaCare Wilmington Campus.
“Our hearts are with the victims, their families and loved ones, and everyone affected by today’s violence,” said Jennifer Schwartz, Esq., incoming president and CEO. “This is a tragic and deeply painful moment for our community.”
The campus is now open, safe and secure with no ongoing threat to patients, caregivers or visitors.
ChristianaCare is working closely with the Wilmington Police Department and law enforcement partners as they continue their investigation. Because this remains an active investigation, the health system is deferring questions about the incident itself to law enforcement.
“I want to thank our caregivers at Wilmington Hospital, the Wilmington Police Department, our first responders, and our ChristianaCare Public Safety team for their swift response today,” Schwartz said. “In the face of fear and uncertainty, our caregivers stayed focused on what matters most, caring for patients and supporting one another.”
Throughout the day, caregivers across the Wilmington campus responded with professionalism, courage and compassion under extraordinary circumstances.
“We are deeply grateful for the heroism of our caregivers,” Schwartz said. “They showed incredible strength today. We will continue to stand beside them and support our community in the days ahead.”
ChristianaCare has activated wellbeing and behavioral health resources to support caregivers in the wake of this incident, recognizing the emotional impact such events can have.
