U.S. News & World Report Ranks ChristianaCare No. 1 in Delaware

High Performing is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. The recognition encompasses both of ChristianaCare’s Delaware hospitals—Wilmington Hospital and Christiana Hospital.

ChristianaCare is also ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Delaware and tied for the No. 3 hospital in the greater Philadelphia region, which is home to more than 80 hospitals. “It’s an honor to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for providing some of the best care in the nation,” said Kert Anzilotti, M.D., MBA, FACR, system chief medical officer and president of the Medical Group at ChristianaCare. “This accolade is a true testament to the dedication and skill of our caregivers, who come together each day to deliver safe, high-quality care for our patients.” U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions; only 13% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals designation.
Mari Lou Parkinson of Lewes, Delaware, was diagnosed with high-grade serous endometrial cancer, an aggressive form, and received treatment with ChristianaCare's Arielle Katcher, M.D., one of two gynecologic oncologists in Delaware.

Medical oncologist Gregory Masters, M.D., thoracic surgeon Charles Mulligan, M.D., and Jacki Hagelberg consulted on her lung cancer treatment as part of her multidisciplinary care at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute.

Methodology

To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care. This U.S. News and World Report recognition comes on the heels of multiple other recent quality and safety awards that ChristianaCare has received, including:
  • ChristianaCare was recognized as one of the best hospitals in the nation by Money in its 2025 hospital rankings, making it the only hospital in Delaware to achieve this distinction.
  • ChristianaCare is ranked by Newsweek among the World’s Best Hospitals.
