Cancer Care

Cancer Surgery

Our surgeons are trained in the latest surgical techniques.

Cancer surgery aims to remove the cancer tissue from the body. The doctor who performs your cancer surgery is a surgical oncologist.

In most cases, the surgeon removes the cancer tumor and some tissue around it, which may prevent the tumor from growing back. The surgeon may also remove nearby lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped organs of the immune system that are sometimes associated with cancers when they become enlarged or inflamed.

Cancer surgeons at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute are trained in the latest surgical techniques, including minimally invasive procedures and robotic surgery. A surgical oncologist will be a part of your multidisciplinary treatment team and will work closely with your radiologist and medical oncologist to help determine the best plan of treatment for your cancer.
